11/24/2023 0 Comments Bitwarden chrome extension not showing![]() You might be wondering and rightfully so – How do I enable Bitwarden extensions in Chrome? To download Bitwarden onto Firefox or Chrome, you’ll have to go to their respective download pages and grab the extension.įor Chrome specifically, all you need to do is click the Add to Chrome button once the plugin page opens in the Chrome Web Store. The service also has secure file sharing and cloud storage in multiple languages. In fact, it’s one of the safest password managers that have multi-factor authentication. ![]() Is Bitwarden extension safe?īitwarden is relatively safe to use. Knowing all this, one might wonder – how safe the extension is, to begin with. Some users mentioned the Bitwarden Chrome extension not showing or keeps locking, while others are simply unable to log in with Bitwarden autofill not working. Others also complained about the Bitwarden extension not working on Safari. Going down the list, there’s a Bitwarden mobile app, desktop app, web browser interface, command-line interface, and the topic of this guide, a browser extension.Īt times, you may experience some issues with the extension both on Chrome and Firefox. But Bitwarden extension not working instances are not unheard of. There are different versions to suit various needs. The only way I can update anything through the extension is in "all sites" mode.Bitwarden is a password management service that saves essential information, like login credentials, into an encrypted vault. In those modes the extension can read my previously-entered usernames/passwords and plug them into a site fine, but it can't update anything (any attempt to update results in "failed to fetch" error). ![]() (note - extra spaces are included next to the asterisks above to prevent reddit from turning them into italics.those spaces are not present in the expressions I entered into chrome.)Īfter that I still get errors in both the "on click" mode and the "on specific sites" mode.(note - chrome extension manager won't let me put the wildcard in other places like * / *.I guess if I don't want to allow the bitwarden extension to have access to my data on "all sites" then I'll have to change the " Allow this extension to read and change all your data on websites you visit" option to "on specific sites"Īctually that didn't fix it. I don't particularly want to expose those passwords to being read by the bitwarden extension if I'm not using the extension for those websites (why should I have to?). Bitlocker handles almost everything but it doesn't handle my email accounts which are most critical and I already have extended passwords memorized and 2FA for my email accounts. Maybe I shouldn't be changing that setting to "on click only"? My thought process was to segregate some of my most important things into buckets. (*) - maybe the prompt for a password upon changing to all sites is a clue that for some reason the chrome extension had lost track of my password? So for me the error seems repeatably related to the setting the site access to "on click" rather than "all sites" I can now add an identity and save it (and I didn't have to uninstall /reinstall the extension). If I then switch the setting back to "all websites", then the next time I click it prompts me for my password (* ) and then it works fine. After that, I get the error even for simple things like trying to add an identity (which has nothing to do with accessing any website). I finally figured out that the error only seems to occur after I go into "manage extensions" and switch the option "Allow this extension to read and change all your data on websites you visit:" to be "on click" (rather than "all websites"). I have gone through the cycle at least 10 times. The problem is that it keeps coming back. Then I try clearing browsing history, uninstalling extension, exiting chrome, going back in, re-installing the extension. Over and over I get the "failed to fetch error".īased on on-line advice, I try disabling my firewall, does not fix it. I'm relatively new to bitwarden, using it on windows 10PC with chrome extension.
